My DD just entered her freshman year. She's pitching on JV. She's the only pitcher on JV. She's throwing 90-100 pitches per game. They had 5 games last week and will have 4 this week. She said she's really tired (one of 3 pitchers on her summer team). Is she taking on too much?

Ya think??? Time to meet with the coach and set some limits. Keep in mind that this is not a negotiation. They obviously do not have your daughters best interest in mind.

Our JV had one pitcher but I thought it was fairly reasonable since they only played 2 sometimes 3 games a week. Five games a week followed by four games a week is pretty ridiculous, only problem is I have seen programs that literally have no other options but we actually had 4 games one week the coach told a girl who had not pitched since 12U she was going to pitch with about a weeks notice, they were basically slingshot HE lob balls but coach did pick our weakest opponent and we actually won.

Thanks everyone. Found out DD said something to the coach Saturday at their tournament because she was sick. And then said something tonight. He said "varsity gets priority in regards to the players and 2 of the other pitchers rotate starting in the OF for varsity". I'm sure they can pitch a game and then go and stand in the OF.

This past year, I had one real pitcher and one that said she was a pitcher but was as wild as a March hare. I still pitched both. You can run one pitcher into the ground if you don't use a little discipline and give up on the other pitcher. It is harder to coach up the lesser pitcher but it has to be done.

First - why are you playing 4-5 games in a week? Around here it's two a week, maybe three if there is a make up, and that is a maybe
Second - set pitch limits. For the day, for two days, for three days, etc. You can't throw 100 pitches a day for three days in a row and expect to be at the top of your game
Third - research recovery methods. There are a lot of different opinions out there about ice, stretching, etc. Figure out which one works best for your kid.

Some state HS orgs have rules - if you play X amount of time in a JV game, you can't play varsity that day/week. Or if you play X amount of time in a varsity game, you can't play JV. I know in basketball, my nephew played and was a baller up in Akron, OH. His freshman year he could only play one quarter in his JV game to be able play in the varsity game. But in the varsity game, as a freshman, he would see maybe 7-10 minutes on the floor. JV played before the varsity. So coach had a constant balancing act all year.

Sorry....should've been more clear in regards to the number of games. Her JV team was in a tournament last weekend and they have another this weekend.

One of the other pitchers in the program is a sophomore. She is a good OF...not great and avg hitter. I would think her coming down one game to pitch and skipping Varsity wouldn't hurt
