She's got some good things going for her, seems to have a great natural arm bend. Just fixing her posture could probably help a lot with accuracy. If she straightens her spine, it'll help her arm contact the body, giving her a cue for when she needs to release the ball.

If you want to take it a step further...

Check out the IR Classroom sticky. Work your way through those drills, I bet she picks it up pretty quickly.

Thanks for posting front and side views. Makes things much, much easier.

The accuracy problem comes from the lack of brush resistance.

The arm should brush the hip prior to release. This brush is critical for accuracy. To brush the hip, she has to stand up straight. If you go to the 4 second mark of the front video, you see her stick her butt out. Her arm is a good 6 to 8 inches from her hip.

She needs to stand up straight at release and tuck her butt underneath her shoulders. The way to phrase it is, "Move your left hip to it brushes your arm." Or "Move your body to brush the arm." You do *NOT* want her to move her arm to her hips...you want her to move her hips to the arm.

The other thing for her to work on is that her hand should be behind the ball at 12 and *under* the ball at 9.

Here is a drill for your DD to do. Look at the ball position at 9 and 12. Also, note the way her arm brushes her hip.

First of all your first video needs some improvement - don't just start with the ground if you want to be as good as me you need to end with it too, try to get more of your shoe and start talking in them too ;) Just giving you a hard time cause my kids always do it to me :)

So awesome that Ken broke down those shots for you. She is getting a nice early start and you've come to the right place for help. If you can get her working on learning to throw underhand with some 9:00 type drills found in the I/R stickies, or the video Sluggers provided above, while working on her posture issues that you see above (staying nice and tall and firm with her arm in close to the body) it will help lay a great foundation for everything else.

Ken B how dare you post stills like that!! that's usually my job...LOL

anyway just a lot of basic things she needs to work on for a beginning pitcher.

Really plow through the IR in the classroom sticky.

Biggest things I would start with are Drive right now it is too passive and brush interference everything she is doing is to get her hips out of the way and her arm way outside she should be doing the exact opposite, really needs the stand tall and stay straight cues.

OK just two stills note the arm position in relation to the thigh/hips leaning.jpgpaulyrelease.jpg

Regarding her posture, would an appropriate cue/instruction to use be to tuck her chin back more, as way to get her to stand straighter/taller? The side pics, #'s 3 and 4, gives her an almost hunched-over look.

Or is the head alignment something that would be fixed (or almost fixed) naturally as a result of NOT getting her hips out of the way? My limited, beginner instructions to my older daughter has included telling her to "get snooty" as a way to stop leaning forward too much. Seems to help, but also hard to catch and analyze at the same time!

I am new to all this as well, but I know when my daughter stays on the powerline her accuracy is much better.
