If there were only more. Always thought it was unproductive to have 17 players waiting to hit or field while 1 players tries in vain to get the ball in the same zip code as the strike zone.

There seem to be two approaches. One is to build a pitcher and hopefully turn them into an athlete. The other is to build an athlete and turn them into a pitcher. Personally I think the latter is the best approach.
The phenoms you see at 10U are just gifted with athleticism and natural ability. Some develop over the long term, others for many reasons get passed up by other girls.
