how many days rest do you give your pitcher before a HS (16/18u) tournament?
DD takes friday's off before a weekend tourny and practices pitching about 3 to 4 days out of the last five.

is that enough rest or should it be 2 days?

what do you give your DD's?

No rest. Just lessen the intensity. Typically some long toss to get blood flowing and get a good stretch. Getting properly hydrated and mentally prepared is much more important than physical rest.

Such an open Question. :)

If she is practicing 3 or 4 times a week I would say 1 day rest is fine.

Typically you want to play through the tournament and not let it interrupt her schedule too much.

Once they playoffs start maybe a light workout 2 days before game opposed to full workout.

we tried light practice the day before the weekend tourny and that didn't seem to work too well. could be other factors as well.
we're trying one day rest for now and see how that goes. it's going to be a HOT weekend :)

thanks!

Day of game DD pitches about 10 pitches, I am good.

Another P, pitched for 1/2 an hour. She looked tired before she even got into game.

Somewhere in the middle is the right anwser, especially for consecutive games.

I think I would look at pregame more then anything else.

Then take a day or 2 off depending on how much she pitches.

When we were playing 12 and 14u she would throw maybe 20 pitches or some long toss the day before. Now at 16u we are traveling much farther to showcases so we usually take the day off before. She is on a team with 2 other pitchers so they share the mound time and rotate during the showcase games. After the tournament we take one day off...maybe two depending on how much she threw and/or other factors.

one day rest didn't seem to make much of a difference. seems like light workout before tournament worked better :)
the high heat took a toll on the players and parents! :)

My DD is a 16U pitcher. We played a lot of showcases this summer. Tournaments either start on Friday and sometimes Thursday. Anyway, I always let her the day after a tournament off. I say its good physically and mentally. I also try to give the day before so the arms fresh, also were normally traveling the day before the tournament. IMO, her arms more live on the first day of the tournament and she looses a little pop by the end of the tournament. Kids play too much and need a break, compound this with that she'll throw some in a practice if they have one. Even doing that, she's getting four to 5 days pitching a week. That's enough pitching. So if we do have time to get the practice in or a pitching lesson, were fortunate.

Im amazed when people have a time to pitch every day of the week in travel season. Its always a fight juggling time with my DD schedule and mine. Also, my wife gets frustrated when we spend the evenings practicing after being gone at a tournament for the 3 or 4 days. Its catch 22, you really want to work on something like the Change that didn't work the prior weekend, but you have no time.
