DD's team will be playing/pitching this weekend in close to 100 degree heat.

What's the best way to cool down?
I know frog-togs are great but recent rules of 1 cooler per team makes it difficult to bring a personal cooler to put the FT in.

any one used those misting fans? which ones work best?

TIA!

You have to manage the entire day. Focus on reducing the activity level of the kids between games.

Have some alternative quiet activity for them between the games. You may have to force the kids to sit quietly in the shade.

We always scoped out suitable sites under trees and had a parent hold that area for the team.

One of my DD's teammates parents used to make a concoction of water and SeaBreeze, add towels and ice and it works great to wipe off necks and drape it over your head. Just remember that it will take off sunscreen, so reapply often!

If they do not allow personal coolers put it in a ziplock back and put it in the main cooler.

Having raised 2 catchers, we dealt with this issue frequently. For places that didn't allow individual coolers, we used a water thermos. Multiple frog togs in zip locks (zip locks keep the ice from sticking to tog) and ice and water in the jug. Always having a tog in the ice water will allow quick cool between innings.

One of the things we talk about is hyperhydrating or pre-hydrating. Athletes need to get extra fluids into the body and while recommended windows vary, it won't hurt to start 2 days before a tournament begins.

Double check with the TD to see if they would consider extra coolers due to the heat.

Definitely. If met with resistance, you might casually wonder aloud what sort of liability they might face for any possible heat-related injuries.

thanks all.

i've txted HC who will talk with the TD.

the idea of putting the FT in a thermos bottle sounds like a viable alternative if TD will not allow other coolers.

btw, why would they not allow coolers in? is it because they want us to buy from the concession stand?

Yes. They allow (usually) a team cooler full of water/sports drinks for the team, but they want all parents and spectators to purchase drinks/food from their concession stand. Some have admission fees and allow coolers brought in. Some places have admission fees, and still no coolers, but it is part of the money making for hosting a tournament.

DD used a softsided back pack cooler and no one ever said a word to her. You probably already do it but insist the catcher remove their chest protector between innings. Amazing how much heat those hold in.

We used these last weekend and were awesome. Just add water, doesn't even need to be cold water, wring them out and are very cold, last a few hours. Can even be machine washed. Not sure if you have them or some version in the US or not.
