Icing the ribs. That must be fun.
actually its the sternum that gets iced. hurts to breathe. (3) adults I know who have had it were initially hospitalized as it was mistaken for a heart attack. pain in the arse.....

obbay- My thoughts exactly regarding joints/tendons. Wonder if the same logic applies? Also makes me wonder if my old coach wasn't right on the ball when he had us alternate ice and heat for recovery. Ice to help with inflammation and heat to bring back blood flow.

In general, normal athletic soreness should not be a situation where you need ice or any other treatment. I see way too many 10U pitchers icing after a 5 inning game where they threw maybe 80 pitches. Monkey see, monkey do. The reason you see football players and elite athletes use ice is because they have chronic injuries from years of abuse and maybe surgeries, not soreness from normal athletic activities.

DD is 15YO, has pitched since she was 7YO and has only iced once after a game where the coach over pitched her in 3 games (including a 9 inning game) in one day.
