Played in Manitoba U12 Provincial Championships last weekend and wife got a video of this pitch from gold medal game. Not something we practice which is only fastball/peel drop and change up. Looks like its breaking down and out and seems like hand is coming up side of ball.

To your point it appears it is a fastball where she got her fingers outside the ball causing it to break down and away from a RHB. This is a good thing, that I actually teach with the fastball. Once they master the base 1/7 (IR/BI) fastball with the fingers on the inside, we learn to throw with the fingers on the outside and get 11/5 rotation to tail the ball the other way.

Glad this popped up. Was going to PM RB about the two seam FB that Jake throws. He has mentioned the idea of finger pressure to get the ball to move. Not having learned to pitch, I dont grasp the idea of finger pressure to get movement. My DD throws the two seam, however it is a pitch with its own intentions. sometimes breaks in (to RHB) other time no movement. I & DD cant seem to figure why so erratic. Anyone with help or an explanation to help us better control this I would be grateful. Thanks.

Instead of focusing on finger pressure, it may help to focus on the position of the last finger to leave the ball. Slow down your session and work with getting the fingers inside and outside of the ball. Feel the pull of the fingers on the laces. It will take some time, but when the light comes on it will be a great day!

So to me it looks like the hand coming coming up side of the ball and not finger pressure. We do play around with finger pressure moving middle and pointer finger to one side then middle and ring finger to one side. So if the fingers are on outside of ball, middle and pointer, it should break inside to a rhb and vice versa if fingers are moved to the inside, correct?

That is basically it. Most pitchers make a huge leap in command and movement when they can finally feel and control how the ball comes off the pads.

Would you please be able to explain to this novice what you mean by the fingers "inside" the ball and "outside" the ball.

Thanks

Think of inside the ball as fingers between ball and hip. Outside would be with ball between hip and fingers. Does that help? I am between flights or would try to find some pics. :)

So RB are you meaning fingers come up the inside or outside by moving hand position. Like I said we play around with finger pressure but don't change position of the hand.
