Here are the rules difference between NCAA and International play
rules difference1.JPG

Michelle Smith made the comment "that there is a transition period from college athlete to the International games". Other than having 9 solid hitters in the line up, it seems to me that we are preparing, or the athlete is prepared, for International play rules. So is this the reason the leap is not being called in the NCAA?

It's my understanding that leaping is allowed EVERYWHERE else in the world for both men and women. It's not clear why we can't evolve.

The international rules listed above are all superior to their NCAA counterparts.

While I dislike Michele Smith's commentary, this was a point I've been saying all along. USA is the ONLY country in the world where men and women have different pitching rules. AND, the ISF allows the leap (which quickly turns into crowhopping, I can hear the complaining about that already!) and NCAA doesn't allow it. So, in theory, being a so-so pitcher in college doesn't mean you won't be All World when the ISF or Olympics come around and you can really cut loose. I'm sure USA softball is aware of which pitchers will take advantage of the rule changes and which cannot.

As for hitting, nearly all the National teams have male BP pitchers. It's not difficult to get them leaping to help the hitter get used to the timing. Leaping or not, the ball has to cross the plate and hitters need to adjust. I absolutely hate the argument I hear from people that their team can't hit slow pitching so when a team throws a girl who isn't fast, it screws them up. How ridiculous is that? Whether it's slow pitch or someone firing bullets into a target, eventually good hitters will time it.

We are the USA and the greatest and most powerful country in the world because we do not run out and "evolve" to all the misguided crap from Europe and the many Banana Republics. We have a tradition of really not caring what everyone else does, and suspect we will continue to do so. We have more softball players than any other country, what they do and how they do it is really of no consequence. A lion doesn't concern itself with the opinion of sheep.

I am sure our "greatness" will influence China, Japan, and Australia to see the error in their ways. Dragging your foot while pitching just makes so much sense how could they not change?

It is one thing to change it on our own accord, it is another just because everybody else is doing it. We are not in Middle-School. If we change it we need to do it because it is best for us. That may or may not be the case.
