I think she was talking about letting the outside pitch travel a little deeper and hit opposite field instead of being early and pulling an outside pitch. I know various hitting coaches DD has had over the years talk about hitting the inside pitch when the ball is just in front of home plate and for the outside pitch let it travel a little deeper towards the back of plate.
Now when someone is throwing 73mph, you are probably happy making solid contact anywhere near the plate?
When a person is throwing 73 mph, "letting it get deep" would be broken down into fractions of a fraction of a second. Again, my suggestion is to get the barrel started.
