Watched the Oregon versus Baylor game.

Baylor pitcher lagged her throwing arm at the start of the 'up swing'. Rather than have both arms and leg going "up together", the throwing arm would lag behind and not begin the 'up swing' until after the glove arm was up.

I find this mechanic intriguing. If anyone has a link to this mechanic being discussed, then please post it.

Thanks in advance.

that baylor pitcher would seem to have her pitching arm stutter at around 4-5 o'clock. strange way to get her timing right

I think what you are seeing is that similar to Barnhill she is finding a away to be successful despite her poor mechanics. I doubt it was something she was actually taught.

I thought the announcers said the Baylor pitcher was taught by her pitching coach to show the bottom of her foot to her catcher. If she was taught that I would have to assume she was taught the lag with the throwing hand. I would view it as a way to create overlap.

Pitchers like her seem to use the falling motion fro the extreme height they get off the plate to power their pitches.
There is a HS pitcher here that is very successful with a similar motion.

Seems like this type of motion would also constitute a "re-plant" violation?
How can you post on that back foot like that, and not bear weight a second time, I wonder?
(unless she maintains a toe drag, without ball of foot making weighted contact, until front foot comes down?)

going UP instead of OUT wouldn't be so efficient? that would also put a lot more stress on the stride knee
