Our select All-Star team is going to be facing some teams that heckle the pitcher and the 1B during gameplay. What are some drills that we can use to help the pitcher to focus?

I’m surprised that’s allowed in rec ball. What age is this? I’d think it would fall under some sort of league sportsmanship or conduct rules. Anyway, the best way to shut them up is to make plays and don’t respond to it. Creating drills will get the players thinking more about the chants than just doing their jobs.

Agreed. Just know that this team has a reputation and wanted to safeguard as much as possible.

Hecklers? Like the two guys that sit behind home plate at Florida games and try to distract the opposing pitcher? Classless...

I like a game where each pitcher gets 10 pitches and the others stand on the either side of the circle and do anything they can (tastefully) to distract the one pitching. Go three rounds and keep score. The first round or two is pretty crazy and silly.

(Just realized Seattlecoach beat me to it.)

Do one of two things. Teach them to "clear the mechanism". Teach them to Learn to focus and block out the other team and the crowd....especially their own parents yelling what to fix in their mechanics. My daughter is a master at blocking me out. :)
The other option is to beam the first 3 batters in the back then strike out the next 3. Do that each inning. That should shut them up.

No one could heckle my DD more or better than I have. :)
Spent years screaming at her while she's in the circle.. Always told DW there was a reason for it. It was to prepare DD for other hecklers. J/K :)

I just read your post again. I'm just curious what you mean by heckling the 1B?

I know of teams that will yell just at pitcher is about to pitch outside of an Ahole in the OF maybe getting on a CF I haven't seen the other stuff.

One thing that came to me is that if you are HC you need to talk to the parents of your team and request they do not retaliate. Winning and losing is
important, but learning sportsmanship is very important to me.
