That dip is NOT helping her speed and power. Whatever she's getting is from sheer strength not mechanics. Once that back knee bends, the pressure is relieved from the push off leg rendering the thrust forward impotent. Watch what sprinters do in the blocks, right before the gun goes off, the back leg straightens (not lock) so the push off leg can get max power. Taking your weight down to the ground is counter productive. She'd throw A LOT harder without that bend.

I was watching Carly pitch last week. I believe it was against Ole Miss and she came in for relief in the 1st or 2nd inning. She was not dipping nearly as much as she usually does.

she's throwing that hard because she's a STRONG kid. But, I don't believe she's using optimal mechanics to make her get the most out of her body, not the muscles.

I was thinking the same thing, the wear and tear on her knees of the repetitive motion is concerning.

My first thought when seeing her pitch is why it was not corrected by a trainer or coach.

If a kid who is just under 5'-8" can hit 71 and work at 67-69mph, Hoover should be throwing much faster. :)

Her mechanics have changed somewhat this year. I believe the clip that was shown is old because she doesn't squat down nearly as much as she used too. I noticed that from the very 1st game I saw her play in this year back in feb.

Monica Abbott does this same dip now as well. The question is does Monica throw 75mph because of the dip or in spite of it??

I think the hopping motion that Laura Winter or Lisa Fernandez used before pitches was better prep.
