If you have access to some netting and a full length mirror, set up the net in front of the mirror @ 15-20' away from the pitching plate. Make sure the play in the net will not allow the pitch to hit the mirror. Now the pitcher can watch herself as she throws, focusing on mechanics vs. results of the pitch. If you do not have a mirror and net, use a tarp.

Hillhouse like to use the thrown into your own glove drill. Full circle pitch into her glove. Instant feedback can't catch the ball if the glove isn't there. He also talks about working out in front of a mirror with some rolled up socks, throwing into the mirror, uses the mirror to look at other things too.

Glove swim is rarely a problem that occurs in a vacuum. Most often it is a symptom of a larger flaw somewhere else in the motion. I have found the best way to address large glove swim problems is to address the underlying cause.

Without a clip it's hard to give solid advice, but put a focus on bilateral adduction, pulling both arms into the body. If she is adducting the glove arm properly, it is basically impossible to have glove swim.

I agree with what you are saying, so the drill that Hillhouse showed my dd with throwing into your own glove would be a good start.

It doesn't affect her accuracy but I feel it robs her of velocity? More just bugs me then anything lol. I will see if I can email ken a video for all to critique.

houndogger,

Suggestion to shorten that stride a bit to start. You've got a landing line in dirt that's probably too far of a stretch for her at her level of ability. The lower body & upper body aren't performing together very efficiently. In fact, that exaggerated glove swim and trail leg ruddering could be considered counter-balancing of her uncomfortable stride length.

In her case, less should equate to more.

Work on sticking that front resistance foot, at no more than 45 degrees. This will help the position the shoulders into a more of a linear path to her target. Ideally, she wants to land her glove lightly on the front left thigh on the downswing. 5 - 10 degrees-ish difference is just fine.

The self-snap drills referenced are great start to harmonizing the front side shoulder. Learning to keep the ball hand in the glove and harmonized with the glove hand as long as possible throughout the front side circle can also do wonders for glove swim, among other things. It's still very uncommon in the women's game and you don't see it alot, but has been the gold standard on the men's side for many years.

Experiment a bit & do what you feel is most beneficial for your situation.

Chris
