in tonight's ASU vs UNC game, Breanna Macha was called for an IP!
holy cow! they do see it when pitchers stride outside of the pitching lane! it wasn't that difficult at all.

this just makes me wonder why UMPS don't call it on all the other even more obvious pitchers.
this leads me to believe it's much more than not 'seeing it'.

FAMU Pitcher was also called...... playing against Florida, at gatorville. So- I'm waiting to see if our favorite replanted gets call.

I remember a few years ago, people were complaining about how the Seattle Seahawks DBs would commit pass interference (or illegal contact, defensive holding, etc) on almost every play, and it was by design. They knew they'd get some calls against them, but they also knew no refs would call it every time.

I think there's something unconscious here, too. A pitcher who pitches correctly 99% of the time is going to get caught more on the 1% the pitch is illegal because those pitches look wrong. They look different than all the legal ones. A pitcher who is often illegal, well, looks normal. Yeah, they should be called. But I can see why it gets missed.

More IPs are usually called in tourney since umpires are from neutral conferences - they don't have to worry about pissing off a coach and being barred from working that team's conference games.
