Saw My First "Barnhill Effect" Pitcher Tonight...in 12U Rec

One of our local rec league plastic hunters played our local rec team who has exactly zero TB players and is almost all 11 year olds.

The opposition had at least 5-6 travel players, including one who pitches for one of, if not the, premier organization in the metro area. So in tonight's 12U game after getting pulled into keeping score, my DD (who is a first year 14U pitcher) comes over and says that girl is illegal. Our dugout is like a Chinese fire drill and I had been just trying to keep order, but I stopped long enough to watch - sure enough, she's a re-planter. Not airborne, not out of the lane but the right foot was quick off the rubber, paused pretty square, and then pushed off. It was totally obvious.

And that's how it starts. With only a single ump, and him being our league president, us being clearly outmatched, and the fact that I was just a fan in the stands 3 minutes before gametime, I didn't push it and she came out after that inning.

It was frustrating because this girl clearly would be a good pitcher without it. It was cool that DD was paying enough attention to pick that up. I can't believe that a half decent TB coach wouldn't be chirping at the base ump during a 2 man crew game.

Thank to DFP, I finally know what I am looking at!

If the umpires aren't going to call it...

We actually had a base umpire call 4 IPs in our last game. Some people were complaining, but I was actually glad to see he was paying attention. It was not for leaping or replanting, the pitchers stride foot was pulling back and losing contact with the pitching plate before the stride out.

There was a replanter in our tournament last weekend,
Parents noticed who told the coach who notified the umps, only 2 IP calls the entire game.

It gets called in 10u/12u a lot in the DFW area. Mainly from coaches who point it out to the umps, but I've seen very few umps around here ignore it when it gets pointed out. Pitcher usually gets pulled after a few batters.

In DD's HS varsity, they played against a pitcher who leaped. despite the parents 'telling' blue about the IP, blue did nothing. DD's team lost the game but won the rematch.
OTOH, in the 1st round of HS playoffs, DD's team faced a pitcher who was legal, brushed and whipped.
OMG! it was a sight to behold.

DD's team could hardly hit her (DD had a bunt single) and that pitcher shut out DD's team and playoff hopes.
