I am with you that it will take a significant action by a coach to bring the issue to the forefront. And I agree that most fans if educated about the rule may not care. But I think that most would have an issue with bogus nature of the game when they expect at straight up, legit competition. I remember my disappointment as a kid when faced with the epiphany that professional wrestling was a show and not a real competition. For me like softball it came down to the officiating. Found it odd that the referee always turned away at just the right moment to not see something. Just like umpires unable to see an IP from 30-40 feet away. Granted unlike wrestling the outcome is not predetermined by those at the top. At least we assume and hope that is not happening. But some of the parallels in officiating with the WWE and the NCAA seem quite similar.

RB,

have you ever asked jake why her HC doesn't even bother to complain about these blatant disregard of the rules? if the opposing team's HC's don't care, then it's going to be a tough case for the 'fans'.

It does no good. The top teams in the SEC play by a different set of rules. Does anyone think for a minute that if Barhill was throwing for SC, Arkansas, etc. vs Florida the umpires would not be calling it with abandon? SEC = WWE.

Signs and organized chants at the WCWS might bring attention to the issue. If that doesn't move the needle, then we'll need to resurrect John Belushi to rally the masses - Who's with meeeee?!

Getting several hundred fans to stand, hold their arm out and yell ILLEGAL after each pitch during a nationally televised game might do the trick.

Now we are getting somewhere! Since every dog in America is protesting something lately lets starts protest illegal pitchers. Just Joking. But seriously I like the thoughts that are being said here. It might take a home team fans to yell Illegal pitch. Maybe they are waiting for the tournament to start. But we to keep spreading the word and keep all the threads going.

Great idea...this will really promote the game of fastpitch to the masses....where was all the yelling IP when team USA was winning gold and silver medals with Cat Osterman pitching.....crickets....

The issue is Barhill not Osterman. Equating the two is a special kind of nonsense. It is a strawman and the last bastion of the skippie enablers. Barnhill is a cheat and deliberately works outside the rules. If you feel the same about Osterman you are certainly on the fringe.
