Just in case someone new to the forum reads this thread and actually thinks there is how you should teach your child to pitch. This thread is total sarcasm, and you should not teach your child to pitch the way they are showing in any of these videos.

The child in this video could actually be a decent pitcher. You can see on a couple pitches that it is not natural for the kid to follow through to her right shoulder. The instructor is coaching the athleticism right out of the child. On of the pitches the child actually looks good on the pitch and then the instructor tells her that she needs to follow through more. On the next pitch the girl follows through and touches her right shoulder and the instructor gives words of encouragement. Sad

"Sad" about covers it. I look forward to the days when a new pitcher, bucket parent or coach can search YouTube for pitching info and find good information. I'm hoping Fastpitch Foundations will spark a revolution.

I had to tell then 9 year old DD to ignore everything Jennie Finch taught her about pitching when we went to her camp, for this exact thing. "No, honey, don't listen to your idol. Listen to your mom. I know she pitched in the Olympics but I've read lots of stuff on this really cool message board." That was fun!

Can someone tell my what the drill where you get down on one knee and you throw the ball under the other leg drill is supposed to be for? I see some of the girls on my DDs team do this. Trying to figure out what the HE coach is trying to get them to accomplish with this.

It does nothing to promote good form or pitching fitness. It might be fun and good for coordination--but that's about it...

You have to look like you are accomplishing something in the 1/2 hour lesson you are being paid for.

As I recall, Finch has some ok info that she teaches. The best thing about her is that she loves the game and is great with the kids.

I took my older DD to watch Team USA on the Bound for Beijing Tour. Towards the end of the game, kids wanting autographs were directed to line up at the gate in the corner of left field. There were hundreds of kids lined up within minutes. After the game, a barricade was set up at the edge of the infield and all the players stood behind and were spread out. When the gate opened, the herd rushed out onto the field and into lines in front of each player. Finch's line was the longest. There was an announcement made that each child could either get an autograph or a picture. Finch and Berg stepped out onto the field and gave every kid an autograph, a hug and a picture. DD's glove is hidden away to this day and is one of her greatest treasures.

Take your kids to see their idols if you can.
