I believe my DD has the yips. She is 11yr old 10u pitcher. She as been pitching really good up until 2 weeks ago and just can't seem to get it back. She can't find the strike zone and has just lost all that she has learned. Pitching practices yelid the same result. She just can't get it together. Anybody went through this and have advice? I've asked her if she needed a break but she was insist she's fine. Not sure what to do.

Yep...several times. Right now DD cannot take speed off her change up. This has never been a problem for her.

Ask her if she's trying to place the ball versus throwing it.

Sometimes when pitchers are trying to hit a spot, they slow their arm down (sometimes slow everything down) to try and place the ball to a spot instead of throwing to the spot.

Knightsb she's doing that. In our tourney this past weekend you could she was trying to aim it. Then when she finally threw a strike she was getting hit hard because she slowed everything down. Last night during pitching practice she was throwing her normal speed but just couldn't put the ball where it needed to go

If it is really bad and you do not seem to be working through it shut her down for a week or so. Often they come back just fine.

I am all too familiar with the yips. Luckily she hasn't had one in a little while but they do happen. When it does we take a step back and focus on the drills and emphasize mechanics. There have been times we have gone through a lesson with only 5 or 10 minutes of full pitch.

Give her a day or two off, then throw into a tarp for a day or two focusing on mechanics, not worrying about the results of the pitch.

Can you get a slow-mo video clip, or a Coaches Eye clip of her and watch her mechanics?
The girl who plays 3rd base on my oldest DDs HS team gets streaks of the yips...
I picked it out 2 years ago that she periodically and unknowingly changes the throwing angle of her arm.
Her yips are mechanical and show up intermittently, and for her all she has to do is bring her arm back down...if she doesn't, that ball is literally thrown in a 15' vertical spread. 10' in front of the first base glove, or 5' over her glove while jumping.

So if you can't find a mechanical flaw, it's the mental yips...and I've got nothin' for ya...
Like JAD said, have them practice in a non-game, low pressure setting, and build up their accuracy and confidence before putting them back into a game situation.

Good luck!

Here is video from her lessons last night. It took her coach 1hr 15 minutes to get her to this point. Once we got her here she was throwing strikes again. Certainly some mechanical and mental issues going on. One good thing is she wants to keep working. Feel free to critique the video. Might be some other things we can fix

Take a video from the throwing arm side and post it. You don't have to slow it down, I'll do that.
