[CAN OF WORMS]

Excerpt from the 2016-2017 Softball Manual published by the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA)

Beginning in the Fall of 2017 it will be required for the Pitcher to wear a protective mask.
The softball advisory committee also strongly urges the first and third basemen to do the same.

What about Baseball? Are they too good and do not need one?

(DD has always worn a mask, she has stopped when playing OF for some reason. Does not effect us but they need to have better things to do)

I am all for this. The rec league that I am coaching in has 14U pitching at 40 feet. They would have 16 and 18 you doing the same thing, but that age group doesn't exist.
We have already seen one serious injury. I am teaching the girls to hit and many of them are swinging hot bats. We are courting disaster.

One more comment, well 2.

If you are going to require a face mask they should provide one if needed.

NY passed a law a couple days ago where a difipulater needs to be at all games. Not sure how it will work but like this one.

I can not stop myself. :)

Biggest issue we have I think is heat. Forget face masks everything else.

We modified rules were either coach or ump can stop game because of temperature.

That was discussed by MSHSAA. Link here.

and so it begins....honestly I think over the next decade or so this will become the norm and a complete non-issue, so many girls grow up pitching with a mask and this way if they know they have to for HS they will just keep wearing it without the excuse of but college coaches won't look at me to if I have to in HS I want to make sure I'm used to it so I might as well just keeping wearing it all the time.
