DD has been practicing throwing a rise, in warmups only during practice sessions. She now has started to try and throw it from full windup for fun and sometimes it's looks to be total bullet spin but sometimes it has a kind of flutter to it at the end. I've never caught a real rise ball before, I know it's supposed to rise but I'm not sure what to expect and it's hard to see the spin. I'll ask PC but does that make any sense to anybody?

How old is DD? A true "rise" is exceptionally rare - what people call "riseballs" for most youth pitchers is (worst-case) a high pitch or (best-case) a pitch that does not drop. A real "rise" that fights off gravity to actually make an upward move above plane after release requires incredible strength & spin rate (IMO, of course). Like with most pitches, what you are trying to accomplish is a pitch that looks the same out of the hand, but acts differently en route to the plate. So a "rise" that just fails to drop and can be thrown with good accuracy would be a victory for most. This is something we are just starting to play around with for my DD; who throws very strong 12/6 spin and a good natural drop. Being able to take the downward movement off of her pitch on command would be a good skill to have.

Good luck!

Put some sort of marker on ball. DD practices with me I have tape around balls.

DD is 12, she throws a 1/7 drop/fb and a change. The 'bullet' rise did not drop and was just as fast as the drop/fb if not a touch faster but the 'flutter' one was slower and also did not drop. It was just strange. Just hoping that sometime this season she can throw that 'rise' in a game. PC says the difference between a good pitcher and great pitcher is how good the rise is and she's looking forward to a third pitch to throw

Quincy,
PC says no lined ball for rise, we do use lined balls sometimes but PC wants DD to recognize good spin and not use them all the time

Sounds like it is going very well if she's 12. No substitute for practice, practice, practice!

If she has good dropball spin on her fastball, then bullet spin isn't going to drop as much. Get speed of the bullet spin to high 50s and she has a "riseball"...

So a non dropping fb if they normally throw it is a 'rise'? But with bullet there is no movement? Same for rise? Sorry I'm new to this pitch
