My DD is 5'5" tall and 16 years old. Since she started pitching she has kept the ball to the side and then pitched (not a bring one arm back pitcher). Almost every time we pitch together she always says "I wish I was faster". She has good to great movement most of the time. When we are doing drills she has decent speed, but when we go to live pitching from the mound the speed is very inconsistent. More down than up. We have and still are focusing on the drive leg. Making sure not to bend the back leg to much and drive off the ball of the foot. And getting the resistant leg to up and down quickly and also having front resistant. When this and other stuff is all working together she has decent speed.

We have noticed a lot of girls her size bring the one arm back when they pitch and seem to have great speed and movement. This is the dilemma(and not sleeping) I am in Should we look into changing styles? Or, maybe she needs to perfect what she has and not jump ship.

I was wondering has anyone faced this problem? If so, what did you do.

DD has had issue with game opposed to practice. I asked her to give it everything she had 1st pitch rest of at bat is hers.

(If you happen to be in stances 1st pitch, be on your toes and be ready to jump)

Definitely post a clip if you want to get good advice on her becoming a better pitcher. I doubt whether or not she takes a backswing prior to pitching is really the issue. What I read in your post is that she has glimpses of being better, but mostly she is average when she is pitching for real. And you're wondering whether or not you should just leave things as they are or try to improve her technique and have her get more consistent and perform better. IF she is average now and not going to try to improve while everyone else around her does...she will be below average before you know it...and you're next decision will be whether or not she should quit softball or just quit pitching. If she wants to keep pitching...you should always be looking to improve.

If your goal is to increase speed, I don't think changing her pre-motion to a single arm backswing will necessarily yield a significant increase.

If you can post a side view from her throwing arm side that will allow better analysis of her throwing arm mechanics.

From behind, you can see some issues with posture, and her drive (or lack there of).

I can tonight.
Could you elaborate more on the Posture and Lack of drive. And how I can get more leg drive. I think it is a lot but apparently it is not. So I need suggestion and help. Also, how do you work on leg drive being on concrete floor. Isn't that hard on the hip, knee and ankle? Thanks for the help.
