On a bucket
DD has really worked hard on her circle change since learning IR...it does indeed spin 12/6 and falls off the table! I couldn't figure out for the life of me why but now I know! I have seen her lock up really good hitters with this pitch and when they do make contact they either drive it straight into the clay or pop it straight up. She finishes with her hand pointing directly at the catcher. She has very small hands for her age, (turns 14 in a week), and she has said the circle was easier to control. Totally agree with playing with the grip as every DD is different. We work all four corners on the bucket and this has increased accuracy exponentially.

My daughter was struggling as well. Got the change up video from paulygirlfastpitch (he also included bonus video's as well) and she started pitching the change effectively.

Just speaking from experience, but I have seen my DD's flip fall off the table, not sure what she does differently, but I can state with certainty that it happens. And she can throw it for a strike if needed. It was a long process getting it to work, but it is much, much more deceptive than the horseshoe changes I have seen locally.

Flip change is easier to see for a savy hitter and it promotes backspin wich makes the ball want to stay up. Only way those drop is gravity or slowness of pitch. This allows better hitters to reset and BOOM. My dds pitching coach has taught her how most men throw all 3 pitches that she throws. 4 seem dropping fastball. Knuckle on seam riseball that some girls just dont have the hand size to throw. and a circle change that is similar to hoseshoe. Changeup spins like fast ball and drops hard. The ball comes off her palm area a few inches down from her pinky. This pitch was not easy for her to learn but is nasty. most kids I have seen try to learn this pitch try to finesse it and struggle with cosistentcy including my daughter. You MUST rip this pitch to make it believable and drop.

DD throws a flip change, but she throws it hard with some side spin (20rps) which tends to move the ball down and away from RHB. It's about 15mph slower than her fastest pitch. She also has an offspeed, knuckle curveball, which takes 5-7 mph off the pitch. She throws it a little off the plate, can be effective unless she leaves it too much over the plate and can get hammered. Need to be very careful and commited throwing it.
