DD is developing as a pitcher, but when she is practicing with me, she has a tendency to rush things. trying to get her to pause once she steps on rubber, take a deep breath, etc., but she is insistent she is not going to fast (not talking arm speed, just she rushes into start of next pitch). then, because she is throwing so many in such a short time, she gets fatigued.

ideas?

DD has been warned about quick pitching a few times, batter is fine ump she is causing a problem.

I asked her to look around the field and smile, she does not have the smile down yet but she does look around the field.

She could be in a hurry to "get done" Not sure if you set a number of pitches per practice or what your practice looks like. If she is trying to hurry to get done, you may try settling a number on the quality pitches you need to see that practice. Stress quality not quantity.

By the way I have mixed results, she can be in a hurry sometimes.

Nothing gets called in our league, she has been warned 3 times. :) She is the only pitcher that I remember being warned let alone 3 times.

My DD did the same thing. Soon as she got the ball back she'd hurl it right back to the catcher. I went with a strange approach. I put a hitch in her giddyup and had her take a breath, swing her shoulders to the side, come back straight then throw the ball. While it was unconventional it worked wonders. Once she got it in her head that it wasn't a race, we removed the hitch and now she takes her time.

Don't have your catcher ready just because she is..... meaning. During practice - you build n the pause by keeping your glove down forcing the pause.

I had the same issue for a bit, I started taking my time as a catcher. Throwing the ball back not getting down right away, taking my glove off to adjust the strap constantly, shaking imaginary dirt off, stretching my legs, etc..

We also added in what Snotbubbles said (giving pitch and location) forced her to slow down.

Mine did that too when she first started. College pitcher who was first coach broker her of it, because she looked up to her so much. She told her after she received ball back from catcher to walk around the circle to the back of the circle and approach the rubber from behind. Encouraged her to take a few breaths and get oxygen back to her muscles.
