Bumping this because it keeps recurring. We took time off, she was all better. Then it came back. This weekend she couldn't pitch. it hurts sometimes when she runs. We're going to get her into PT but I'm thinking more about the pars fracture. I want to make sure she is not being misdiagnosed. They did take an x-ray but it was of her hip. There was inflammation there, which led to the apophysitis diagnosis in the left iliac crest. With a pars fracture is the pain off center? Hers is always on the left side, on the top of her hip bone.

Ever since DD played in a 12U tournament a little over 2 weeks ago, she's had pain in her side/back. She's right-handed, and the pain is on the left. She said it feels like muscle pain, like a pulled muscle.

Just curious on the Total # of pitches she threw for the tournament?

Pars fracture pain starts in the lower back and can radiate into the hip or thigh. But I am just a dude on the Internet, you would have to bring this up with her specialist.

Personally if the pain is recurring, especially after rest, I would shut her down completely until you have a definite diagnosis and/or treatment plan. She is young, she will take it hard, but it is not worth any risk to her future.

Hope all ends well.

Ok, I checked. 111 pitches that weekend. She says the pain is very localized and doesn't radiate at all. We have a doctor's appointment Tuesday and will also get a referral for physical therapy.

Get the scan. Most general practitioners wont know about PARS. We went through it last year.

MY dd had pain like this, went though the better parts of her Junior and Senior year.

Her Pelvis would go out of whack from the Jarring of landing on her stride foot. It twists a bit on one side and gets out of alignment. Trips to the Chiro, stretching, some resistance exercises and getting taped once a week helped, rest was the only thing that made it 100% gone.

We see our chiro tomorrow before our regular doctor. I need to start taking her in more often. We go once a month as a family and it really does help.
