DD 10u pitched this past weekend in an indoor tourney. She pitched a lot and her body and shoulder area is pretty sore. After a tourney how much rest do you give your DD? Is it better to keep up our weekly pitching or let her rest?

If her arm is sore I would shut her down for a week or 2. Maybe if she playing for national championship otherwise it is not worth it IMO.

Did she pitch a lot more than she's used to? DD plays 12u and she will get 2-3 days off after a tourney. She used to get very sore but that was due to bad mechanics and now soreness is not really an issue.

She's never pitched this much in a tourney. I believe it's just muscle soreness from where she's never pitched that much. Her legs and whole body are sore. I don't think she has hurt her shoulder or anything like that.

If DD is sore we take a few days off til it passes. Last fall she was on a team where she pitched about 1 game per tournament. In the spring we were on a team where she split the bracket games evenly with another pitcher, and pitched some of the pool games. I remember a 7GG where she pitched 3.5 games over 2 days. We took almost a whole week off, she was so sore. It was her push leg though, not her arm or shoulder. We mostly listen to her and let her decide, but you have to be careful. If you have a driven kid who really loves to pitch, they'll downplay it so they can pitch more. We're forcing some time off this week because she pulled a muscle recently and we don't want it to get worse. Basically we focus on the long term. No individual practice or game or tournament really matters in 10U in the big picture. But if she chooses to play long term we want that to be an option for her; it won't be if she gets overuse injuries and has to have surgery or even quit the game.

First or second year 10u? How long has she been pitching? Why did she pitch so much more this weekend than others?

Here's a frame of reference. My DD would throw 300-400 pitches a weekend when she was 2nd year 10u. She always took Monday off. But she never complained of any soreness.

How about the parents of college pitches chiming in. While amount of rest needed for fatigue, injuries etc will vary for age and even in same age the recovery time will vary. All ages can have workhorses and ones that are really effective for 2 games a day then fade quickly. I wonder if there is a trend among colleges of x innings =y days rest and they keep with rotation. Of couse the rotation will align and adjust to who and when they play, but overall trying to mantain a sense of work vs rest

She's second year 10u. Has been pitching a little over a year. She didn't play in the fall and believe it's just muscle soreness from not pitching in games since last summer. They reason she pitched so much more is because she's the #1 on her team and is pretty good. We pitch 3 times a week for practice but never thrown the amount of pitches she threw this weekend. I really don't think it's anything serious but will give her a week off and get back at it next week.

Seems to me if it's normal muscle soreness and you take a couple weeks off as suggested then when she comes back and pitches next time she will be just as sore next time like when you go to the gym sporadically you are sore every time I would take a day or two off and then do a light workout. and then end of week have a full workout. You want to build muscle and endurance not just take time off and then have to start all over again.
