there are some who become skippies, but there are quite a lot who follow the rules.
if you change the pitching distance to 46 feet to accomodate the leapers and replanters, what then for those who followed the rules?
that would be unjust to those who followed the rules, right?

they made the rules and it wasn't done yesterday, they have to enforce it.

Back on the dirt...
"because its a lot of work just to windmill a pitch consistently, let alone worry about having to drag your pivot foot legally along the ground like an anchor and god forbid if you have any weight on your foot as you complete the arm circle"

You made my point fo me. Just enforce the current rules instead of making new rules. There are many pitchers out there who pitche effectively and they work hard to FOLLOW THE RULES as written.

The problem is that the governing bodies and umpire associations have decided that they are not going to enforce these pitching rules, at any level. Why not then do away with them if they can't and won't be enforced and when they do try to enforce them they are done in a capricious and arbitrary fashion which isn't fair to ANY of the pitchers?

They could easily crack down on these rules violations but turn a blind eye. Why? Is it because they are archaic rules that should have been taken off the rule book years ago? Is there disagreement to what is a "leap" and "replant" and is it even practically enforceable without the game coming to a screeching halt? I think these are important questions to be asking and to get answers for.

I am watching MSU game and Silkwood is pitching. I know this has been discussed on this board before, BUT really letting her double plant and nothing is said is such an unfair advantage. I could go on... but it is not right.

Until there is a set standard when it comes to pitching, you will continue to see IP. Not only see it but the pitcher will be rewarded for doing so if she is highly successful.

Assuming neither is called, the replant provides a greater advantage. But 99% of the time the replant is proceeded by a leap.

Does anyone have any video of the 1% that DOES replant but does NOT proceed it with a leap? I agree with Riseball on this and it almost always proceeds with a leap. Someone made a comment a page or 2 earlier (2 lazy to go back and look) that Barnhill does not leap first. All the video I have seen of her shows her leaping first but please post video if you have some of her without the leap.

Or to my original question.....ANYONE replanting without the leap first.

I know this can be done, as I can do it myself, but I can't say I have seen it in a "real" pitcher during a game.

Thanks and perhaps KnightsB can open up his vault on this one....

My question is what happens when Barnhill or others are pitching for Team USA in the Olympics. Will the umpires there be calling the illegal pitches or what will happen then?

If international rules are in play for the Olympics then the skippies will continue to make hay and receive global applause

Can I just say I would be so embarrassed and furious if one of these was my kid. I'm a rule follower, and I've raised my kids to be so. This to me is tantamount to cheat on your SAT's to get into a better college, or stealing from your employer. We can say all we want about the umpires and the coaches - and I agree with all of it. But it's too bad that the parents and athletes didn't have more integrity themselves. I would go so far as to say I wouldn't hire one of these young women to work for me, or give them a reference if the opportunity arose because I feel that their honesty and trustworthiness comes into question for me.

I have evaluated many pitchers for college coaches, and every coach has passed on flagrant skippies. On so many levels it is just not worth it.
