Sad thing here is they (officiating) like to wait until the WCWS to finally call IP's... She and Barnhill are in a world of hurt assuming they both make it that far.

Until you get to regionals you are dealing with umpires from the home teams respective conference, who by and large officiate at the pleasure of the Head Coach. One SEC umpire explained that the day he dumps Tim for his antics or starts calling IP's will be his last day umpiring in Gainesville. Once you get into regionals the HC of the hosting school has less influence on future assignments, so IP's are more likely to get called. I also believe that although a lesser influence you cannot discount the ESPN effect. They want to grow their base and to the casual observer an IP is not "good show". Remember the antics that used to go on during the live interviews with coaches in the 5th inning? As soon as ESPN deemed this was not "good show" the NCAA ended it.

The bottom line is that the enforcement of the established pitching rules is not in the best financial interests of ESPN or the NCAA so do not hold your breath waiting for it to happen. Along those lines moving the rubber back to 46ft and removing the existing rules will once again turn it into a pitchers game, so likewise do not expect that change.

On the bucket
Someone with the skills and software post GIFs of Silkwood and Barnhill side by side and from the same angle if possible.
Do or did they have the same pitching coach?

Do you think Silkwoods drive leg is unweighted at this time?

Are you saying you don't thing she's getting a second push?

in the first gif you posted, with a vantage point from behind, I didnt think that her crazy donkey kick with so much sideways energy could really be contributing all that much to her pitch, but your side pic has me rethinking that view...

Alexis is from my home town. Her dad is my boss lol. I am not sure who is coaching her now at Miss State, and I agree that she could definately be called for the replant. Her style seems to have changed a lot since I saw her in person. She was very successful at high school level, setting several Illinois state records for pitching. (don't recall all of them, but most wins, most strike outs, most shut outs)

On a side note, she worked her butt off back in her high school days. (as i am sure most that have made it to that level have) I would ride my bike home a lot of days from work. The park here in town has a cut through that I would ride on to get home. She was always in the park working on pitching. Throwing into a mat on the fence, or her mom was there with her a lot of the times. Other days she would be there hitting, by herself, into a bow net.

Edit to add--forgot a few: strikeouts-career[1.] 1,907, Alexis Silkwood, Alton (Marquette), 2010-2013,, strikeouts-season[1.] 501, Alexis Silkwood, Alton (Marquette), 2011,, shutouts-career[1.] 100, Alexis Silkwood from Alton (Marquette), 2010-2013,, shutouts-season[1.] 28, Alexis Silkwood, Alton (Marquette), 2012,, Most no Hitters-[1.] 54, Alexis Silkwood from Alton (Marquette), 2010-2013, Most no hitters-Season[1.] 19, Alexis Silkwood, Alton (Marquette), 2012, ,Most consecutive no hitters-[1.] 7, Alexis Silkwood from Alton (Marquette), 2013 (Jerseyville, Mascoutah, Wood River, Quincy Notre Dame, Carrollton, Nokomis, Roxana)

Why is it when a skippy is called out you hear the same things:

1) She never gets called for it.

2) She has been very successful.

3) She works very hard.

4) She is a nice kid.

All of which are completely irrelevant. What part of illegal is lost on folks?

May very well be irrelevant. I was just sharing some personal insight. And I agree that in the clips posted above, she is indeed illegal.

As far as your list, #2, #3, and #4 are all very true.

What is frustrating to me is DD is a pure strider and in the past if her drag foot slightly came off the ground and I would agree it occasionally did but we've since fixed that issue, I've had umpires ask me to warn her about. All the while facing a double plant and re-drive pitcher and it's nothing but crickets on the other side. This seems to be more and more common in our area to see this.

I personally do not think leaping is an advantage, it is the replant and second push from 40 feet.

I might agree that leaping in and of itself does not provide a competitive advantage. However, you need to look at it on a pitcher by pitcher basis. If when required to pitch legally a pitchers performance falls off, leaping for that specific pitcher is certainly a competitive advantage. That said I think that for the majority of skippys like Barnhill, Silkwood etc. it is definitely a competitive advantage. Were it not for the leap and subsequent replant and push I doubt they could last an inning.
