She is 5'-4" with a long torso and fairly short legs. Yet her stride foot ends up outside of the 8 foot circle so in effect she is throwing from 36-35 feet. In fact she releases further from the rubber than 6'-3" Monica Abbott. So I would love to have someone explain again how this is not a competitive advantage?

Back on the dirt...

EVERYTIME we have called a pitcher out for this and they have to adjust, their pitching becomes less effective because they are having to focus on the proper mechanics.

interesting...

shes the first ive seen (leaper, push foot landing toes pointing rearward) that also doesnt have a crazy glove swim.

just an observation....

in her case, the IP *should* be an easy call. This is a leap - both feet airborne at same time.
advantage is she can stride further, but there is no second push here. Her rear leg is mainly unweighted the whole time...

Barnhill is a lot tougher. She maintains contact with ground. And will never get called for a "second push" in realtime. (*much* easier to see in hi-res slo-mo)

Also worth noting: If I coached my kid exclusively from 10U to College, she would look carbon-copy to the Miss St pitcher. Thinking back to how DD pitched before working with a knowledgable coach, this is the path she was clearly headed down... There is merit to not coaching the athlete out of the kid, but I am glad we altered her mechanics early on and engrained a pretty good foundation to build upon.

Do you think Silkwoods drive leg is unweighted at this time?

Are you saying you don't thing she's getting a second push?

unless she has mastered the art of anti-gravity, i'd say yes :) probably the next frame would show her knee pointing the opposite direction after that 2nd push
