Ok, so I am biased. I am a HS Girl's Golf Coach. My dd and many others played golf and did well. I asked a sophomore to come out this year and she had never played 9 holes of golf in her life. She finished as my #3 this year. My dd had several college offers in golf but then again, she could drive a golf ball out of this world. They have fun and get to do another sport.

There is a lot of scholarship money available for female golfers that can break 90!

I think golf is the most under utilized scholarship for girls.

My DD plays basketball all of her injuries have been softball related.

To this point, I have not had one girl know how to golf when I got them as freshmen. Still, I have several young ladies playing in college and at least one more will join them. I had a young lady sign on NLI Day and she is getting an exceptional deal. She is a 2 times state qualifier and can hit a ball a country mile. One other was headed to a D-I for horses. Some monies apparently have not come her way. So, she is rethinking where she will attend college and may take up an offer from a D-II. The other best thing about a young lady playing golf is that she can play golf the rest of her life. BB and I go out and kill the ball once in a while. She also went out with her boyfriend to teach him and some others about the benefits of the lady's tee box. LOL

My softball player always played volleyball as well. At the time, I noted that these to complimented each other well with regard to throwing; all of the volleyball players on the various softball teams had better arms. But in retrospect, we noticed she started having should issues from overuse. She added basketball (in place of winter travel volleyball) and that pain went away. So I think it is good for players to be well rounded, but be cautious of year round similar mechanics

and holy smokes, I should have tons of money coming my way. I can totally break 90. But you perhaps were talking about a different direction. :)

My dd plays basketball and volleyball. Basketball is a great workout - they do a ton of running. Volleyball is great for quick reflexes. Jammed fingers happen on occasion but heal pretty quickly. She is a pitcher as well.

I believe it is hard to argue that basketball would not add the most amount of athleticism as a complimentary high school sport. Jumping, running, hand eye coordination, agility, plus basketball can be a very physical sport which is a good thing imo.

Every kid is different. As for my own, she'd be better not to consider softball when picking another sport. Softball dominates her life so much already that I don't want it to influence the time when she's not playing softball. She needs a break from that. If it's healthy and fun, just do it, whether it's volleyball or the school play. It's not going to matter that much any way, IMO. If other sports were so helpful, then college and pro football players would play soccer in the off-season and vice-versa. Be well-rounded, be happy, enjoy yourself and don't make it so much about softball, IMO.
