How is she doing? What does she need to work on.

She has been working off an on for a year. More off than on because of trying to find a pitching coach who could teach what is recommended here.
I gave up for now and I've been trying to coach her based on what I've read here.
Please let me know what you think she needs to work on or improve on other than just reps.

Thanks!

No expert, but it looks like she's doing a lot right. If she was my dd I would work on getting rid of the bend at the waist so she gets her arm closer to her body to try and obtain some brush. I wouldn't talk about brush but talk about not bending at the waist, the brush will come. Also I would work on adduction, her glove arm doesn't pull back toward her body but more left to right. Here's a link about adduction https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2sZ-pR3gotA

Hopefully someone who knows more will chime in and help. Good luck!

Thanks! I will definitely check that out. I was trying to tell her she needed to stop her glove had from swimming but no clue how to explain how to stop it.
I will have to watch her video again to find the bend at the waist. I didn't notice that, will definitely take your advice though.

I wouldn't really focus on the swim as much as just creating the adduction mentioned in the video. I think that may improve her whip, she has very little whip right now.

On the whole I'd say she's very impressive for not even a year's work. I'd say she's bleeding speed with the step back at the end. Making sure she continues her drag until her right knee is past her left should help with that.

You need brush (stabilization of the upper arm) in order to have whip. Adduction is easy if you think of it as pulling both arms into the body at the same time. I'm not sure I see a bending issue...but I do think her right hip is sliding away/kind of behind her, as she is coming to release. So here is my thinking...try to keep the drive/right knee driving forward...this is the direction you want to create momentum towards, and it will help keep the hip in line. As the throwing hand elbow is driving towards the body, so should the glove arm elbow. Her throwing hand should be making contact with her body around the elbow or just below to stabilize the upper arm and create whip as the ball is released. For references...look at her video and what the drive leg and right hip are doing...what direction are they traveling...compare to the drive mechanics and model pitchers threads. Look at her elbow passing by her side with no hesitation, and no whip in the hand...look at the drills in the brush resistance thread and compare to the model pitchers...every elite pitcher you will look at is creating contact with their side...#1 thing you are missing out on.

She has a lot going on that is good, but also has significant opportunity for improvement. I would focus on two things.

The first is get the ball up at 9. She has virtually no IR and subsequently little whip. She is pushing/muscling the ball.

The second is quit going past midline and develop more whip. Watch the video and focus on the humerus (upper arm). At release it should be perpendicular to the ground. She is well past with her release point forward near her front hip. We want that closer to the back hip. This is sucking the velocity and spin out of her pitch. In fact this is one of the things I actually teach to when throwing a change up. If a pitcher is throwing with proper IR/BI having them intentionally go past midline along with a grip adjustment will yield a lights out change up. These two items along with some posture alignment will result in a dramatic improvement. Strongly suggest when working on these items that you do so throwing into a tarp at close range vs a catcher.

BTW - Congratulations on shooting and posting an excellent video. This was spot on for analysis purposes. :)

So you can visualize what her upper arm should look like, you can also see how their glove hand has comes down into their body which is part of the abduction mentioned earlier and I'm guessing what is explained in the video they recommended.

There is a lot to like especially at the beginning. As for the finish I think practice a drill where you start a 12 oclock a focus on bringing the back knee into the front leg and the glove hand into the body would do wonders. Wish I could demo what I mean. She is just not finishing she opens up and then is trying to only close her arm and hip, her glove hand and back foot need come close as well. Close might not be the right word but they just need to get to the right places. I'll post again to show you what I mean. Then once you think she understands have her start doing the walk through drill.

The bending issue I see is a bend to her right side not bending forward. I think we are seeing the same thing perhaps when you mention hip slide.

focus on the glove hand and back knee here; this is what I mean by everything closing and being where it is supposed to be
