Last year, DD and I found ourselves frustrated with slow pitching growth and the continuous stress that comes with pitching. We took some time off. She has decided that she has learned too much to quit and is ready to take another stab at it. I am determined to make sure she learns correctly while keeping it fun. We are focusing on spin and placement rather than strength and speed.
During our discussion I realized that she believes that the spin is generated at 6:00. I believe that is too late in the pitch. The ball should be leaving her hand then. My question is: between which two numbers on the clock should she begin spinning the ball for most pitches? I theorized that spin is generated during whip. So she would feel the spin being generated between 9 and 6:00.

I would agree that it starts at 9 but most important is the posture at 6. Even if you are great at 9, if you screw up the posture at 6 you are hosed. Based on your description I would guess that she blows past mid-line and tends to push, not whip the ball through release. Of course I could say this regarding almost all pitchers and would probably be right at least 80% of the time. :)

Post a video of her... Rise is probably right. I suspect that her motion is a mess from 9 to release.

From a purely technical point of view, the ball is released slightly after 6.
