Last night we played a new team. Their pitcher did not start with both feet on the rubber, which I know is legal. The question though is.....is she allowed to take the non-pivot foot and STEP backward then begin her motion? I honestly do not recall the location on the hands at this point. Not sure if that makes a difference...need an answer to help a parent cool off.

I am not an expert, but I believe there is a difference in high school vs. ASA regarding the rules concerning pitcher foot placement. Most pitchers do not attempt to change their motions to try to take advantage of the difference in the rules, which is why you rarely see it.

Depends on the organization and league. If you are training a pitcher eliminate the step. It will not be legal in the better sanctioned events you will participate in.

Replanting annoys me, I am do sure I care about to much else.

Leap all you want, step back sure.

DD does none of this but it does not bother me if other pitchers do.

Sounds good, then we are saying that according to NFHS this is legal if hands are apart, but with ASA it is NOT legal. This is the way I see this. I believe the school we played goes with NFHS but the parents questioning the play I think is using ASA

I am pretty sure it is legal in all school ball. I am not sure about what position the hands need to be in.

You are right about ASA, it would be illegal.
