Walk-throughs and long tosses better than pitching?

Trying to figure out why DD walk-throughs and pitching from a longer distance (as we often do in warm-ups) are better than off of the rubber at 43 ft? I know video is most helpful and I will try soon but I am just curious if those of you who have been there and done that noticed this as well. Is it most likely something she IS doing in those drills or something she is NOT doing off of the rubber during regular pitching? Any help is appreciated.

i can only say that when my DD does long toss or warm up pitches she is a heck more relaxed than when pitching at 43'. no pressure.

I agree with "relaxed no pressure statement" as we do rapid fire once or twice a week and I know that after the first one which is thrown from the rubber like a normal pitch she is much more relaxed and fluid going through the rest of the drill. She is only concentrating on getting back to the spot to receive the next ball and throw as fast as she can...no time for thought equals a relaxed throwing motion.

My daughter also seems much more relaxed doing walk throughs and long toss. She does long toss from 2nd base and it looks effortless. Maybe I should have her begin with long toss instead of finishing with it.

Any thoughts on what mechanics might change in walk-thorughs and long toss that we could try and translate to the rubber?

DD does it as part of her warm-up before each game and practice. Have my TB pitchers do the same.

My DD used to do long toss every time she had the room after getting fully warm. I have all of my pitchers do long toss. I use it as a mental measuring stick. If they throw a pitch from the rubber that is not up to their capabilities I will ask them "Would that pitch have made it from 2nd base?" Or whatever their max distance was. It gives them a way to measure themselves without a radar gun.

Thanks for the responses. Thanks Rick, the front side resistance makes tons of sense with her. Tried an experiment today and had her throw 2 from distance then 2 from the rubber and alternate for a while. I think light bulb lit up to some extent. She started to feel the difference in effort and even wanted to throw curves and drops from distance then from the rubber. There was a noticeable improvement in her spin too so this may be a new routine for us. Interesting that her drive and stride are so much more straight from distance as well where on the rubber she has a tendency to push/stride towards her pitching hand
