Not a great video, but all I have right now. This day wasn't a very good I/R day, but that's another battle. Trying to get out of leaping and get that toe to drag. So need some help. Need some suggestions and pointers to get out of leaping.

8 1/2 x 11's. Paper that is. Put a sheet under her drag foot. Push off and DRAG the paper.....

Better buy a ream of paper. They only last a couple times.

In addition to BoardMember's paper trick, I'd also suggest trying a focus of driving out more squarely--feel for the shoulders, hips, knees and toes all driving out to the target. I think I see some effort to drive to get open. Also, you might try a feel of dragging the toenails. I've also used cardboard outside and a rag inside on smoother surfaces.

I like also having a barrier to help keep the foot from flopping sideways and staying toe down. Last year we just used a dumb bell but you can make a box. It seemed to really help my then nine year old get her toe down better.

These from Rita Lynn's site, though I am not sure if it needs to be this high for the 1st one.

My daughter is also struggling with with drive mechanics. Can't get her to lift stride knee high enough...also cheats on drive foot, twisting it immediately after push off and getting a little air. What cue should she be focused on to get open? Turning the foot at the apex of the leap or does the shoulder turn drive the lower half? I'm going to start with the foot box....but need to explain to her how to get open without sacrificing drive energy. Any advice is appreciated

High enough is my main concern, although I believe the premature twisting costs her stride length as well. Since she doesn't get high enough she has to hurry with her arm to keep up and her spine angle is affected sometimes and she leaks forward a bit after stride plant. This has improved lately as working on a riseball has forced her to stay back with her spine angle on that pitch. I don't have a recent clip so I don't want to waste your time. I will get one ASAP...I appreciate your willingness to look at it. The air isn't real noticeable real time...but I see it in video and in stills. I think it's costing her velocity, not to mention the fact that a sharp coach will notice it probably at the most in opportune time.

Leaping I taped 6 pieces about 1" a part 1/8 diameter tubing to mat in front of rubber. Sorta like a wash board. She should feel the bumps on her stride. You know they have it when she complains about her toes being sore. Easy enough to remove.

Gotta say that I don't like these devices. If you watch the pivot foot of most very good pitchers, they actually turn their pivot foot outwards before they drive off the pitching plate. There is this misnomer that pitchers should have their pivot foot in a "sprinter block" start which I believe is misguided. Sprinter's are not trying to drive out and open like pitchers do. The other problem with this device is that it doesn't allow for the sliding of the pivot foot across the pitching plate (e.g. Monica Abbott) before the push-off.

To the OP, to encourage the drag, get an old shoe lace and place them on the ground, 6 inches in front of and parallel to the pitching plate. It gives immediate feedback to whether you are dragging or not.
