I haven't been around here much, cuz I'm coaching HS (and i have a regular job) been super busy! my dd is playing Varsity shes a freshman shes not getting any pitchng time but shes still practicing and working on stuff. Doug gave us some things to work on, thanks doug! this video is from sunday she was working on getting off the rubber sooner, she wants to be off well off by 3:00 but she asked me "how do I Do that" ive read drive mechanics thread, trying to help her. I eplained that shes got to push sooner and quicker, I've also tried telling her to throw her arms more forward but i dont even know if that was the correct thing to say? any suggestions on how to tell her to do ths, or any drills that would help getting her off the rubber sooner? thanks

im also curious what you guys think, if you guys had to pick just one thing to work on with her (i know theres a few things she could work on but if you had to pick one thing to make her a better pitcher what would it be?

thank you!!!

Not bad. The trick to a rubber detatchment by 3:00 is overlap!
Start the drive WHILE the ball is going backwards. She waits to drive until the ball has peaked in the backswing. (stop doing that!)
Also, on a side note, she is still walking out of the pitch. More resistance with the upper body staying behind the front leg. She is allowing herself to come up over her front leg....this is energy leaking that could have been applied into more whip. Plus the better resistance she gets, the more hip snap can be applied. (notice how little the back hip torques?)
Back foot drag looks excellent!!!
She seems as if she's holding back????? As Hillhouse says, "YOU GOTTA LET IT RIP LIKE A FART IN THE BACK OF THE CLASSROOM!!!"
Make sure she understands to practice like she intends to play.

Those were the two things that stood out at me too! That's good to know!

She's been working a little bit on overlap, I think I'm just not smart enough to teach her how to do it, and she thinks "the more I delay my backswing" I can see her thinking about it but she not getting the "while my body moves forward part"
She does the two step drill but she doesn't do it real good, so maybe we need to go back to the two step once again and try to get her to perfect it?

I guess I should mention the issues she's having are low velocity (under 50) and lots of balls going high, (she used to throw them all low now they all high)

Front side resistance and more efficient timing between her upper and lower body. Right now her timing is such that the energy from her stride foot plant does not have time to flow up into her arm before the pitch is released. A little more time between foot plant and release would sync it up better. When you look at girls that throw outized speed for their size, there is a noticeable lag between foot plant and the "throw", they really gather back, plant and throw into the front side. That sounds like two things but it is really one, just a more efficient plant and throw.

Thank you! I love the feedback!
I'm sitting here thinking how to get her to do it? And wondering if this is something I'm going to be able to help her with. I guess I'll start with letting her read this and see if she can figure it out.

Mothgirl. Just curious. What speeds is she hitting now? She looks really good. I agree with CJ. Need more front side resistence. Love the drag leg!

Perfectcircle, what did u use to make the gif?

Last practice her speed was 46-47 fyi ....before Xmas break she was 49-51 (when she was really focusing on getting the ball to drop her speed picked up, I reminded her of that fact last night
