Amanda Scarborough is talking about it's not about how many pitches you throw but having 3 pitches you can throw really well. Someone disagreed saying pitchers can and should master several pitches or they will get rung up. She said her 2 daughters are able to do just that. So, I of course looked at her fb page. At least one of her multiple pitch mastering daughters is playing 10u. 😂😂😂😂 I laughed and laughed.

The 6 pitch pitcher is everywhere....except on the field. It is far more common for me to sit behind the backstop and watch the same spin pitch after pitch than it is for me to actually see a pitcher with any distinct spins on even two pitches.

What does Monica Abbot throw 2 pitches? Cat throws 3, Hawkins throws 4 I think. Three quality pitches beats 6 mediocre pitches any day of the week.

I'm hoping for my 12U to have 4 someday: drop, rise, curve, change.

She works on all but the rise, currently.

Her curve and drop do have, er... "distinctive" spins.
But, right now, curve only really breaks maybe 1 out of 4? (it's a GREAT pitch, when it does!)
And she is just beginning to find the correct axis on Drop for it to "bite" at all.

This is a vast improvement over last season, however, where she only spotted a bullet-spin FB and a change.

Baby steps...

hell, depending on the day my kid might only have one pitch. I told her just yesterday that she didn't "have" a changeup, she had a slower pitch that she could sometimes throw in the general vicinity of home plate....yes it was one of "those" days.

Nice jj, I agree mastery of three pitches trumps 'throwing' six. DD working on dropcurve and drop. Has a decent changeup

Most of you just don't recognize all the different pitches the young one can throw, sure you got the change, rise, curve, drop, but what about the back stop rattler or the worm burner Ive even seen her throw a pitch that would go toward second base from time to time. all younger pitchers have way more than 4 pitches if you really look at it.

Spot on, Amanda.

My 12U DD currently has three pitches. Drop (that doesn't really drop), Change (that isn't much different from the drop that doesn't drop), and the "What the hell was that?".

My friend's 12U DD has, according to him, seven pitches. Remarkably, they all look like my DD's third pitch. Go figure.

What does Monica Abbot throw 2 pitches?

High strike and low strike?
