Only posted a couple of times. In my area, not a lot of pitching coaches. Found one I'm interested in and asked if they teach HE or i/R. Their response was that the I/R was really bad on the elbow. The coach is highly recommended and has been very successful. I know my daughter could learn a ton. I understand the fundamentals of I/R but had not seen any discussion on here about pitchers arm injuries. Is tennis elbow common? Why would I/R cause more injuries than a normal overhand throw? Again, i'm a noob and want to guide my daughter in the right direction. I want her to be as good as she desires to be, but don't want to do anything that will put undo stress on a growing body either.

IR when done correctly, allows the arm and elbow to move how the body is designed to move.... HE is an unnatural motion. Your new PC needs replaced. Your right though..... you can learn a lot from them, but its not the stuff you want your kids doing!

You hadn't seen any discussions about pitchers arm injuries related to IR because there is no direct relationship. If it caused injuries, you likely would have read about it. So you answered your own question simply by asking it.

Ask the PC this, "if IR is so bad for a pitcher, then why are all the high level pitchers doing it?" or at least have the PC provide you some proof of injuries related to IR. HE coaches can and are successful, it just depends on what age and skill level you are referencing "sucess". IMHO, not all but a majority of the HE pitchers struggle to pass the 55 mark, just too much arm push and not enough whip.

It isn't worth discussing with the coach, you will only get frustrated.

I understand it can be hard to find a coach everyone likes but keep looking.

There's plenty to get you started here. So much great info.

My dd had golfers elbow in the fall. It hurt when she pitched but we figured out it was caused by improper overhand throwing mechanics. We took a long break then focused on fixing that. We have worked harder than ever on proper IR mechanics and have had no more elbow issues yet (knock on wood).
