I see all high level pitchers getting hips to 45....then stalling at brush contact....I see hips getting to 45 pre release....what do you see

I see that 45 degrees appears to be an average derived from many other averages. There is no magic number but certainly a range of accepted norms.

Mothgirl,

I'll start a new thread addressing this very topic. My girls had trouble pushing off the rubber as well. Literally for months we experimented with better explosion off the rubber always emphasizing a hard drive foot push off the rubber. I watched countless video, over and over, just focusing on all the great pitchers coming off the rubber. Finally, after watching Monica Abbott for the millionth time it hit me, they're not pushing off the rubber to the degree we think. It's the glove side that explodes off and probably does eighty percent of the work. Once we turned our focus to that side versus pushing off the rubber harder it all snapped into place. Don't want to highjack this thread though. I'll start another thread and we'll pick up the discussion there.

WillyT- I will f/u with this in your thread but want to post here as well in case you don't see it later. Listen to the first 25 secs of the youtube video below.

I pitch for fun and to be a better teacher. What I've noticed in learning is when I focus more on my stride leg, heel to toes, staying loaded with a good push, it's much faster then if I focus on pushing with my drive toes only.
I know not everyone is the same but the glove side is overlooked lots of time.

I hate tacos- said no Juan anywhere

The answer can't be both
Sure it can. The rotating hips transfer energy to the torso (leading since all athletic motion begins in the COG) then rotate further after the rotating shoulders begin to rotate the hips again during follow through. Check the video

The part where the hips follow the shoulders is after ball release. It's part of the deceleration.

I guess what I'm asking is does anyone teach release and then hip turn...the initial hip turn...in other words...no hip rotation until release of the ball...whatsoever...I see a lot of instructors teaching this.

Seems like you answered you own question.

BTW, your internet voice is familiar. Have we met?

Apologies. I thought you'd said you've seen a lot of instructors who teach it.

I haven't seen it myself, but I did chat with an instructor who does teach this. We're hoping to connect sometime to talk about pitching. What I've run into a little more often is the "slam the hips into release" or, "slam the door."

Again, I'll try to say it more clearly: Have we met? Yet to be answered...

I don't think I answered my own question. I'm asking do any of you teach no hip rotation until release. Still yet to be answered

Do any of you guys know anything about ...what they call West Coast Pitching... Guess it has something to do with the hips & release ???
