ok so my DD tonight was doing drills with the pc. and shes been working out with weights now for about 2 weeks to build up some strength anyway they were swapping between reg 12" balls and tennis balls she maxed out on reg balls at 57mph and tennis balls at 67mph the pc says she really should be throwning in the 60s with the reg balls I checked there isn't a ton of weight difference between the too (he thinks its in her head somewhat) true or not true?

A tennis ball is 2 ounces. So a 12" ball weighs over 3x the weight of a tennis ball.

That seems like too much of a difference for weigh or "Her Head" to be the culprit. Likely the case of less skin on the ball resulting in more whip and more speed. How many fingers on the tennis ball and how many on the softball? Likely 3 on the softball and 2 on the tennis ball?

Looked back at my DD numbers from when she was 12. Regular ball was 48, and tennis ball was 53. So, difference at a young age was 5 mph or about 8-10%. If those very limited numbers were to hold true then a 10% variance would be 60 mph. I don't think you can say that from my limited and outdated data, but hope this helps in some way.

hmm Frozen, I'm going to have to ask her about how she was holding the balls that could definitely be something to look at, her hands are virtually clones of my hands (poor kid) hehe just not as thick but exactly the same size and I don't have small hands. and JJ I never thought about keeping stats on the difference like you did that's a great Idea at least from a goal point of view, we're just gonna keep working out on the weights and building up her core more I know it will come but I know she and I both get frustrated to reach that 60mph milestone. in just a cpl weeks we've increased her bench press from barely able to do 85lbs once on the last lift to being able to do 100lbs twice. Thanks guys for your input. Im pretty sure she uses all her fingers on the softball would that slow her down vs using less? but I will ask her for sure once I see the whites of her eyes this morning :) Ok just talked to my DD she was holding the tennis ball with 2 fingers and thumb and softball with all 5.

More skin on the ball slower it is. We kept records of my dd throwing a 7.5 oz ball, 6.5, 5oz and tennis ball. It was for a 12 week throwing program that we would do several times a year. I would have never thought to keep those numbers. However, I'm going to get the gun out over the next week and see how the numbers compare to when she was younger.

The true or not true lies with the intention of the PC.

If your daughter has a fairly non-aggressive approach in terms of driving out PC may be trying to trick her into a more aggressive start by underweighting(speeding up) the arms and force the lower body mechanics to catch up. It's not uncommon for a young pitcher to think they are maximized in the leg drive when the reality is there sitting at about 60%

In that case, it may be true.

If her mechanics are maximized and efficient and her drive is strong and quick, he may be trying to recruit and train muscle via fast twitch concepts of underweighting in ballistic sets .....but I would think he would let you in on it a little more and give you a specific program.

Plus it seems very early to try and put additional speed on added strength after two weeks of lifting. So I'm leaning towards the not true in your question.

Curious to see how it works out.

Yes sf, I think that might be exactly the case with my DD, she doesn't have an explosive drive and he's been pushing her to be more of that, we changed her technique last year alittle bit from bending down too much to start her motion which got her into that sprinter motion and she did explode off the mound but that motion would wear on her physically so we went with more of an erect motion. She did ask me the other night if she should go back to doing that my response was she could try it n see what the results are but just not to over do it in practices. So in saying that we've got some experimenting to try and thanks again guys
