DD is a P3 on my 14U travel team and has been working IR mechanics for some time. I havent paid much attention to her pitching because it's a secondary position for her, and she keeps it up in case she is needed to pitch on a freshman team next season. Plus, she is pretty effective in some spots. The other day I was at her lesson (DW usually takes) and I captured some slo mo video of her move. I was not too happy to see that she was turning her palm back on pitches where she should have been palm up. She is fine in her Warmup arm drills, but loses it at full circle. She still manages to cut in the correct spins most of the time, but I'm sure she isn't getting the most out of her motion. If anyone has any advice on how to drill this so it sticks at game soeed, I would appreciate it.

It would be helpful to see a video of her pitching. However, based on experience, I would bet the palm is turning over at 12:00 due to her not opening quick enough/lack of explosion during the drive phase. My daughter has struggled with this and something we continue to focus on. If you haven't already, go through the drive mechanics thread. It's very helpful and will probably give you a few lightbulb moments. Like I said, a video would be most beneficial. Good luck.

While palm up is the most optimal loaded position, being anywhere between palm to third and Palm up is certainly more acceptable then somewhere between Palm to third and Palm down.........

Just sayin......

That is PALM DOWN..........Not good........She's a pusher NOT a puller.

You must teach her to be a PULLER of the ball down the backside......

PULL IT DOWN.......Palm Up.......

Okay, so this is the frame you were speaking of .....

That frame/palm position is the result of something that occurred prior to that which caused the palm to get to that point. It is hard to see what position that hand is in during the upswing of the arm. However, there is a point in that video where it appears that at 12:00 the ball is facing third base. Try this...during the upswing, or from 6:00 to 12:00, tell her to keep the ball facing to the left or like she is shaking a persons hand or holding a glass of water. I'm not saying this will solve the problem but it worked for my DD. Also, take a look a Scarboroughs power drive video and notice how she brings the ball up the circle.....

Ok thanks Boomers. I think that sounds like a logical step. I will give it a shot.

Yes, I thought we were on it, but it looks like I was off. She knows the pull in drills and warmups, but not in full speed mode. We will work on it and report back. Thanks BM.
