how are you throwing into a tarp in the back yard? Whats your set up

I have a tarp hanging on the Lanai out by our pool. :) I also have a portable setup that I can take with me to a field and secure to a fence or attach it to the bottom of an open garage door at a home. Properly secured they can also be used for hitting. I have also seen old swing sets or clothes lines pressed into service. With the rain here in Florida I have done lessons in covered pavilions at ball fields and local parks.

I have found that most will throw the ball into their glove with excellent mechanics. But as soon as they start doing anything else, especially throwing to someone on a bucket things immediately change. I spend a good amount of time with the ball up at 9 and throwing into the glove, then the tarp using BM's excellent drills. I prefer the tarp over a net since it gives great feedback with a loud pop when things are going well. Until they master throwing into a tarp we do not progress to other activities. I do not let them throw to someone on a bucket until everything else is working well and we are focused on developing accuracy.

This post is FULL of excellent information. As small as it is.......It's huge. Very nice Rise.....

Word of the day "Lanai"...I had to look it it up...Yes, I live in a cave and unfortunately, do not have a lanai :)

"A roofed porch or veranda. A Hawaiian word for patio or balcony. Although typically in Florida, lanai is not used for a balcony. A lanai is a term in a tropical climate and generally is furnished like a room. It may have removable panels of glass, screen or plastic and would usually have a hard surface floor, similar to a patio. Lanais are found in many St Petersburg neighborhoods – think of the masonry waterfront homes in Venetian Isles, Broadwater and Yacht Club Estates."

Believe me If you live in Florida you know the word Lani, weather you have one or not. I live in Florida and I do have a screened in porch with a tile floor aka Lani. That is also wear I hung a big piece of rubber flooring for my dd to pitch into

Thanks riseball!

Don't know if your insight helped others but my dd made a huge breakthrough in one evening.

Also thanks boardmember for highlighting riseball's excellent post.

Got to give credit where it is due, I am pretty sure read that in one of BM's post and it was like DUH! I too have had students have significant breakthroughs almost immediately. If you can get them to trust throwing into a tarp (thank you Denny Tincher) like they do into their glove you are well on your way. Just received a new tarp today from Amazon since my old one is about done. :)
