I was helping at practice the other day and caught a pitcher that had 5 pitches. After 15 minutes I wanted to ask her to throw the pitch she had that I could actually catch. Balls were going everywhere.

I always struggle with should I get involved or not.

HC has assigned someone to work with the pitchers so I think I should stay out of it. Player is practicing at home and you can tell she is working on it but IMO is just lost.

She probably does have 5 pitches

1) High and way above your head
2) Low and bouncing in the dirt before the plate
3) Way inside and out of your ability to catch it
4) Way outside and out of your ability to catch it
5) Unpredictable - She has no clue where it will go

Let's see...

1 = Riseball
2 = Drop
3 = Screw ball
4 = Curve ball
5 = Change up

Sounds about right to me :)

Our sophomore high school pitcher has 5 pitches, and I cannot decipher one from another, although she does effectively spin the ball. Last night she throws a beautiful ball that drops and curves away from the batter for a swinging strike. I say to our pitching coach "Wow, that was a great pitch. Was that her drop or curve?" Pitching coach replies with a strange look "Rise". Me "Huh...well, throw that one again! :)"

My frustration is she is going to get very few innings in the circle when she should get a bunch with a little direction.

We do not need her but the effort she is putting in she could be so much better.

We had a 10U pitcher a few years ago who claimed to have 4 pitchers. I was skeptical until I saw her pitch in a game.

Ball 1,Ball 2, Ball 3 and Ball 4.

A question to pitching coaches (a subject I know little about), It seems like every pitcher I know that takes lessons keeps talking
about all the pitchers they are learning. Many can't even spot a fastball. Is it just something the coaches throw out to make parents
happy, or is it just as easy to learn control with many pitches?
