Here is a clip showing my DD opening the hips and then trying to drive. When we do the drills like the 2 step, without the ball, she does it pretty well. Give her the ball it goes right back. I think its a sequence issue, but Im having difficulty explaining it to her so she can duplicate it. Thoughts??

My thoughts are that she looks generally fantastic. I am working on the same thing with my girls, I think it is a pretty common issue with girls this age and the most important thing is just recognizing it as a problem and working on it. To get your girl to this point you must have faced 100 little tweaks and they resulted in improvements. This is no different. Keep on doing the drills without the ball and eventually it will creep into her motion like all the other improvements. I am approaching it the same way BTW, doing drive drills without a ball, trying to give her a minimum distance to get to so she really has to drive out and use everything to get there and then when that looks good, giving her a ball and watching her go back to old habits. It will eventually click.

What is that on the ground where she is landing?

Your point and OILFs make sense, she is having to really turn her front foot to clear that object on the floor (I assume it is there to make her stride a certain distance) so she is landing at a full 90 degrees on that foot. The body really does want to mirror itself left/right when doing motions like this so her desire to clear that pole and not let her heel touch it could be hindering her progress in trying to get her rear foot staying more laces forward until it loses contact with the rubber.

She put that out there to mark where she was landing. I have video of here practice yesterday on the field and its all the same.

My dd does the same thing and we have been working on getting her to drive forward first, then open. There is a video on Maximize Your Drive the blog entry that says Maximize Leg Drive, there is a little drill that my dd has been doing and it's helping. all you need is a wall. When she does the drill watch her drive foot and make sure she's not turning it, and her hips and shoulders should stay square to the wall. Of course the drive mechanics thread has lots of great info also!
I'm not a PC and certainly no expert, just a bucket mom. I have no affiliation with Make the Change I just found the video when searching for leg drive info and really liked it.
