My daughter wants to and enjoy pitching. She practice pitching on her own 4 days a week, play JV and works with a pitching coach. Right now, she is frustrated because on her travel ball team, the coach brings in guest players every tournament to play in order to have 3 subs, with my daughter always being a sub. My daughter pitched three innings and played outfield for two innings and batted only once in pool games. In bracket games, she never plays. I am thinking about taking her completely out of travel ball since she is not good enough to play at the high school level yet(she has been pitching about 8 months now)but my dd insists that she wants to work on improving her skills in order to earn more playing time in the future. I do have a video of her pitching last month, if anyone has any tips or advice to share, to help her get better, please share.

We live in NC and you are correct, with the exception of my daughter, the travel ball players were getting benched on the HS JV team.
The biggest obstacle my daughter is facing is that she started playing softball much later than most of the girls on travel ball. This is only her second year of playing and only worked with a pitching coach for 8 months. She is wanting to advance at a much quicker rate that she is at the moment.

As far as polishing up, What are some of your suggestions or ideas OILF?

MY concern is that she does not look polished, particularly on the foundation of push off, which is what I would expect after 6 months with a PC. It may be time to move on from the PC and the TB coach....[/QUOTE]

My daughter worked on her leg drive from Amanda Scarborough during a pitching clinic and was highly complimented. Maybe I misunderstood what you were saying or she have changed something since the clinic. I do know that Amanda mentioned something about her arm.

First - find a team she is going to get playing time on. At 14U and below, guest players are to get you to 10 so you can play on the occasional weekend someone can't be there - not for every tournament to get to 12 so you can sit your core team players. I mean what are you paying for exactly - someone else's kid to play so your coach can win an extra game a weekend?

As for her pitching - from her video every pitch is totally different. There is no consistency in her mechanics and quite frankly I am not sure where to start. Practicing what I see here may not be much help since I am not sure what exactly it is she is doing. The one thing she has going for her is that she looks like an athletic kid, so there is some talent to work with.

I can't speak for her PC and what they are teaching her, but I would be concerned.

While not every pitcher looks just like the below video, there is a lot to like in what Amanda does (I don't like her take back but that is somewhat style). Strong legs, great stride, great resistance, fantastic arm whip, great follow through.

Right now all I see in your DD is a fast arm. I recommend you look at your PC's older, more experienced students. Do you see similarities with them and this video (i.e. does your current PC show the ability to get pitchers towards this goal). If not, time to move on.

We went and watch one of his students play high school ball, she is already signed to play college ball next year. In our area, my daughter's pitching coach has a very good reputation and is well known and liked in the travel ball community.
