I did not read all of the previous responses, so I apologize if this is redundant. A replant and push clearly offers the pitcher an advantage. A "leap" without a replant is questionable.

My point was that the crowhop is typically preceding by a leap, making the crowhop a moot point. I have not seen a pitcher crowhop without leaping but I will check out the posts by knightsb. :)

Oh I see what you are saying now. And YES I have seen a good portion, maybe half, that could be "OK" on the leap end with as much as they drag their push foot before replanting.

But back to my original point, if I were to be coaching a pitcher, especially one that might be more vertically challenged than others, I think I would promote the crow-hop for them to more easily obtain the magical 60+ MPH mark. Going in with full disclosure to the pitcher & parent on the sketchy FUBAR rules relative to it. Especially given the increasing numbers that do it.

How old is she and how long has she been pitching? A crow hop is the result of serious mechanical defects and unfortunately fixing it is not accomplished with some drills. You need to start from scratch and learn proper mechanics. Since she has pitching experience she may progress very quickly but she needs to start with the basics.

Now that's an opinion... Glad you can express it  But its not mine. I formed mine... 1st hand from a Men's Fastpitch Champion.

If not the hitch, what do you think causes it, not counting DB entitlement or lack of perfect practice ?

Try it yourself. Feel the difference. Base your opinions on what you know, not what you've been told.
