Oh I used to love to call the multiple changes in a row--of course they need to be working!

One of my 12u's did this a couple of weekends ago in a tournament. Predominately change-ups, one inning was nothing but change-ups. She had a great time and her team won the tournament. And she's not afraid to throw change up ever again.

We'll have to work that change more to throw it every pitch.. That's incredible results on only CU! Kudos

Why does a change up have to be a strike? Very misguided idea from the get-go. Anywhere close to hittable and it can go out of the park, so you have to surprise the batter, by placement in the count or placement moving from zone to out of zone.
Say what?
Explain this one then...DD pitching in her game on Sunday....Change=Strike Change=Strike Rise...out. 3 pitches. Happens all the time.
My DD throws her change all the time..right over the plate. She throws it for a strike in a 3-0 count and also in 3-2 count. It's a really tough pitch to hit and rarely gets hit out of the park. I hate rigid people who say that something should never be done. It all depends on the pitcher and the situation.

It is a very different world under the bridge. Out in the real world we know what works. Loved the vid. No low and away chase pitch on 0-2, go right at her and sit her down!

Back on point about the change up. I was hoping we would or someone would address the backspin on the ball. Spin/rotation is what make the curve, screw, and drop work. Why wouldn't a hard backspin on a change up, that makes it slow and drop mid pitch, be more desirable than just a regular change up that stays at the constant slow speed?

FWIW - Not a big fan of the flip but if you can own it then great. The upside is that the backspin will look like a rise. The downside is that it is easy to float and leave high and fat. Same motion turning thumb down, coming across body looks and acts like a curve.

My DD throws a flip change. It's her best pitch. According to the rev fire it is also her fastest spinning pitch. I think the last time we measured spins was 2 years ago before she went to college. Change spin was about 26 revs per second. All her other pitches were around 18-22.
It does float sometimes but to me it only makes the pitch more effective. It's like a bugs bunny floaty pitch. Btw..That's a technical term. Anyway, I love the flip change.

Pitches don't suddenly move or change speeds! Physics dictate that EVERY pitch (except, and then only on rare occasion, a knuckeball) follows a smooth trajectory (i.e., there are no sudden drops, rises, or breaks) with the velocity decreasing gradually following release from the hand (i.e., there are no drastic changes mid pitch). If you're really interested in the physics, use the DFP search function to find posts by POBguy.

Like I said if you can own it, great. At 26rpsI am sure it is very effective and at 40+ like Georgia's Wilkinson it is mesmerizing. I just sat behind the backstop in awe. Like you said it is like a bugs bunny pitch.
