Here's the Demo I promised...but it's in the basement. Flippin rain just WILL NOT stay away! I get the feeling the owners of the "dusty" original may be looking to trade up! I LOVE this little unit.

Hey, I could get a couple of crazy dads to write down the speed of every pitch, at the tournaments. :)

Reminder, Let's don't get carried away with the MPH. Up until 10 years ago, none of us really knew, anyway. Your kid was either good, or she wasn't.

This is a more accurate indicator of effectiveness than and radar.
What good is speed if you can't locate. 65mph FB down the middle has a
great chance of being hit into the next county. Give me a pitcher with ball movement
any day

I love my original one. No problems.

Yup!

No problems with mine either.

I just use it like the directions state. Press the button with the arm at the 12:00 position.

It is very consistent.

Whether it is dead on accurate I don't know. But I would not know if the new one is dead on accurate either.

I typically don't use it too much, just when I think my DD has gained some speed. And the pocket radar pretty much always confirms what I myself observe.

The new features would be cool, but not worth trading in my current pocket radar.

Mine has been in my dresser for almost two years - only value I found was getting relative speeds of different pitch types because in each different environment it would perform to a different average for a given pitch type. DD's FB would range 5mph based on where she was pitching (and it was NOT because of the pitchers footing/wind/etc).

But there is value in confirming speed-spread of pitch-types.

There is a $30 discount being sponsored by NFCA right now. If you contact me at: info@PocketRadar.com I will get you the Promo-code. If you have any questions, just let me know.

The new Ball Coach model was specifically developed based on feedback from the top college Fastpitch coaches. It takes away the timing requirements of the Classic Pocket Radar, which was designed as a gereral purpose radar gun. The Ball Coach radar also adds a lot of features to easily measure the power of your hits and it also allows you to set it up on a tripod in hand-free mode for training.

There is a trade-up program for people that own a Classic Pocket Radar model, you can find out the details at this link: Trade-up Program

Please let me know if there is ever anything at all I can do to help with any questions or issues.

Update on Pocket Radar

I did pull the trigger on the upgrade, and had a chance to use it a couple of times this week. It is much easier to use. You just point it, hold down the button, and let go when you get a reading.

I used it last night to compare the pitching speeds of two high school pitchers - neither of them were my students, by the way. I just happened to be at the game. Pitcher A, whose team won, was coming in between 58 and 61 mph. Pitcher B was coming in more around 50-51, although I did pick up a 54 once.

The final score was 2-0, by the way, so it's not like different in speed created a huge discrepancy in score.

But the point is, you didn't have to worry about timing the arm. It was point and shoot.

By the way, although the instructions for the classic version do say to push the button at 12:00, the website now says to do it right before the ball starts to move. I presume that means right before release. That could make a difference in the readings.

On the issue of when to push the button on the Classic Pocket Radar; the best thing to do is watch the front foot. It is moving much slower than the arm. If you TAP the red button like the spacebar on a computer just as the pitcher plants their front foot it will get the release speed right out of the hand. I will look into changing the web-site because "right before the ball starts to move" is a little too ambiguous.

Let me know if anyone has any questions or wants more details on what it is doing and how the triggering works on the Classic model.
