Question?: DD's state high school regulations allow the stride foot to be anywhere behind the pitching plate (i.e. off the rubber). Does this change any of the drive mechanics techniques advocated here to maximize a powerful initial drive?

I think I recall [MENTION=551]BoardMember[/MENTION] talking about this... and I remember really enjoying his response. Think he and Hal were going at it... which was always a good read!

IMO, this can help... and it definitely doesn't hurt. All TB teams require both feet in contact... so the balance one might need is there. Use the rule to her DEVELOPMENT advantage. Making the ASA (or similar body) adjustment is really a no brainer.

I reread the thread and I don't think it specifically addresses my question "are there any recommended drive mechanic changes that one would make for a pitcher that has her stride foot back 1 - 2 feet vs both feet on the rubber?" Is overlap any different? Again, I am just trying to determine what is the best starting position and "load" before the push. For example, I see Abbott and Hoover bend down considerably before the push. Would a high schooler be wise to do this crouch position (like a sprinter in a starters block)? Thanks.

I don't think any crouch or bend to those extremes is worth it. A good sequence (such as the 2 step) is very efficient without the stress on the knees or back, let alone the energy expended to make those big moves.

We have kids in our area that bend way over in the back swing and the ball nearly touches the ground, but they still come back up to a tall stance as stride foot leaves the rubber. I don't understand the reason, their pitching coach says it keeps them lower striding out but it all seems like a lot of extra work when at beginning of drive they are still in same upright position. After a day of multiple games I think all that extra movement is going to come back and hit ya like a brick.
