I like a lot of what this young lady is doing in this clip. The older one could learn a couple of things from this one. Love the arm movement and finish across the body. Has tremendous drive up and out to the target. With intent to throw hard which is always good for any pitcher.

Gets wide open at release but needs to work on the toe drag up to the other foot. As for the swinging of the leg. One of the things I do is put pool chemical jugs with water in them about 6 to 8 inches out from the power line and then if they continue to stride out and swing the leg they will hit one of the jugs.

Most young pitchers dont get their front leg up that far so there is no danger of them coming down on top of them. I use pool chemical jugs because they are small and tall. As we progress if it continues I move the jugs close to the line. If forces them to think about striding out straight and not swinging the leg so much during the motion.

Hope this helps.

Dana.

Her stride foot is coming down at around a 90-degree angle. Try and get it to 45-degrees or even slightly less.

It will feel alot more comfortable to her.

Ok, Now I could be seing things because there was a dust storm here in AZ but it looks like she is leaping ever so slightly(could probably get away with it at that level) and then replanting on release. Please someone let me know if I'm smokin crack on this one. I've watched it at least 6 times and i can't take my eye off that back foot. In the backview it looks very minor, but the front and side view you can see it. Even in the second front view you can see she planted the front foot too soon and caused her body to crunch because she was trying to plant and can't because she already started her body drive backwords. I've seen a lot of leap and replant pitchers and that looks the same. Like I said that's my opinion and I could be dead wrong. Helps with the learning process.

Looks like a leap to me too. I don't mind it so much, especially in a young one, because she is really using her lower body. Teach her to drag the toe along the ground and she'll be ahead of a lot of pitcher's her age.

very good long stride, weight distro issue as she plants her stride foot, Stride foot placement - you've heard before me, get it to 45 degrees.
** Ref her leap, NOT a bad thing at her age as she learns LESS Drag is better then DEEP drag, its harder for me to get a pitcher away from dragging deep divots, which obviously slows her pitch, then to get a light toe drag.....

-- 96Coach.... you are correct about her balance... as she over-rotates and lands 90 degrees, she is over-compensating to maintain balance.. she could work light front foot to not let her energy be wasted on regaining balance....
(One of the drills she may do is... as the Front stride foot touches down, have her short-hop 2 more steps on that front foot.. it will help her be much lighter and keep her weight back /standing tall....)

Looks pretty good. Agree with Hal on foot angle. She is leaving the gound when she leaps but it is only for a fraction of a second and this is in slomo so i doubt she would get called for it.

Is crow-hopping and leaping an illegal pitch? If the answer is YES; how could any of you recommend this technique, at ANY age?

As for my comment I stated she was leaping. I didn't mean to imply that was OK. Just IMO, it is minor and don't think if watched at full speed and on a dirt infield, many umpires would call it. I think boardmembers suggestion would probably cure the problem.

Crowhopping is illeagal. Leaping is legal as long as the drag foot drags stays on the same plane as the ground if there is a hole in front of the mound. It's taught to get the pitcher closer to the batter at release. Why not use all the advantage you can?
