From now on, please refer to me as Ms. Amy. You should see what I take to a lesson - 6 softballs and my own equipment. I could get by with a softball and my glove if I had to.

I don't have time to watch all of that. I got to the step out drill and lost interest.

Ha! me too. I was thinking "felix the cat....the wonderful, wonderful cat...." the whole time he was pulling out stuff. I want a magical bag that can carry 100X its volume in stuff.

is that the same kinda bag that hermione granger used in harry potter? she seemed to have an endless bottom bag :)

i can't even watch 5 minutes of this video.

I gave this some thought after being enlightened by the various gurus on this site about IR as the correct methodology for teaching fastpitch pitching. Let's say you're a PC instructor, you have maybe twenty students or an academy, and for the last ten to fifteen years you and your possible staff have been teaching your students to get behind the ball versus rotate through the snap (IR) with an elbow leading whip. You stumble upon this website, you watch the videos, read the debates and realize...I'm wrong. How would one go about telling twenty girls, their parents, your staff we've been wasting your time, we're going in a totally new direction? I'd hate to be that person. I only have two girls I'm working with, we only started this past Aug, for me...the switch was easy...my girls didn't know how to pitch period. Much of what Mr. Tim advocated I did as well at one time, no more.

I can't imagine being in his shoes if he came to embrace IR.

One more thing...I wrote Pitchafit and asked their opinion of Internal Rotation as a methodology for teaching pitching and do they have any instructors who teach it. I didn't mention this site or thread, I gave no hints as to what IR is. I'll keep you posted on their response.

OH MY GOSH!!!

I thought the funeral for what is taught in that clip was a few years back! Appears it's it's alive and well. Let this guy come forth and be brought up to speed. That would be a fun thing to watch!

It is alive and well where we live. DD's first instructor taught this way. It was a constant struggle. DD would pitch. Instructor would bark "point that elbow". DD just couldn't do it... Eventually she got to the point where she would release the ball and after what seemed to be 2 or 3 seconds would lift her arm and point her elbow :) After this coached moved, and I became educated on this site, we were much more careful in finding a new instructor. After first speaking with three other instructors that also used this method, I finally found one that taught I/R style. Luckily it was a smooth transition for DD as she really struggled with the old style anyway.

I don't recall when I first started understanding whip (I know older DD figured out the key before me,) but I do remember the kids I had when I made the change. It's a hard thing to shake...

I'm not sure that specifically referencing I/R as method or style will make sense. A couple years ago, I spoke with a local PC who taught wrist snap and asked her to look at several pics and videos depicting the elbow leading/pausing and forearm rotation. She later told me she uses the same pics and clips to show her students. You win some, you lose some...

I don't mention the change much. I talk about getting long and loose muscles, that loose muscles are quick muscles, relax the arm, release and relax, etc.

In the back of my mind, when I've seen coaches teach crap like this I've often wondered, "Is their real purpose
just to give THEIR daughter a better chance at that D1 scholarship by trashing the competition?"

Actually, this guy probably just doesn't "get it"!

This is one of his students..........Does anyone see any correlation between what he teaches vs. what she does to throw the ball?

How does she throw 64mph?.............

The answer is Show it at 12:00........Palm Up at 9:00.............and INTERNAL ROTATION...........
